#1 - PARCS CAME TO YOU THIS SUMMER
This past summer PARCS brought a workshop to five handy locations
around the province. Our reasons for taking PARCS on the road were
twofold: First, we wanted to provide a cost effective way for a large
group from each cottage community to find out more about PARCS and to
have a say in PARCS’ future directions. Secondly, we wanted to provide
an opportunity for cottage owners to be heard. Workshop input has been
summarized in our latest PARCS newsletter and will be brought before
delegates at the annual convention to be prioritized for future action.
#2 - A NEW TIME AND PLACE FOR OUR ANNUAL CONVENTION
We have plans for a different time and location for our annual fall
convention. Experience has taught us the futility of trying to schedule
a convention during the month prior to an election. Speakers from the
various ministries are not allowed to attend sessions during that period
and government agencies cannot respond to sponsorship requests. The
following is the program for our convention this fall:

panel composed of the Provincial Fire Commissioner, an EMO coordinator
from Katepwa and mayors from other will provide insights about what a
community should have in place for dealing with emergencies.

to 3:30 – Tourism – Its impact on cottage communities and the challenges it poses
o
A panel of delegates
from cottage communities will be joined by staff from the Department of
Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport and will discuss the following issues:
o
What are the new
initiatives for tourism in Saskatchewan?
o
What is the impact of
tourism on our cottage communities?
o
Does
provincial funding adequately reflect the new expectations on cottage
communities as hosts for the growing tourist industry in the province?
